Avengers: Infinity War Review (NO SPOILER)
Updated: Dec 16, 2019
The third Avengers film may be one of the biggest films to ever hit cinema screens with characters all over the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally coming together to take on Thanos. But does Infinity War live up to the hype?
This review does not contain spoilers from the films but there may be references to the trailers.
The writing behind Infinity War is clever throughout the entire film where the audience is left on the edge of their seats with uncertainty about what will happen next. Therefore this creates a gripping narrative that engages the audience and is likely to appeal to any Marvel fan where characters from all across the MCU are finally united to fight Thanos.
The film had the right balance of emotion and action all the way through where it contains a mixture of scenes of humour and darker toned ones as well as consistent appealing action and brilliant fight scenes.
One advantage to having a well developed Marvel Cinematic Universe is that the audience is familiar and attached to the characters so therefore little character development was required making the film heavily action based to really give a ‘war’ feeling.
Another element I liked was the unusual groupings of characters from across the MCU, many of whom hadn’t met before. For example Thor, Groot and Rocket as well as Doctor Strange, Bruce Banner, Spider-Man and Wong.
Throughout the course of the film, Thanos (who has appeared in many post-credit scenes) becomes a strong and layered villain which avoids the cliche of a typical one dimensional villain.
Overall, Infinity War was brilliant and definitely lives up to the anticipation. Although I had been worried about the vast number of characters in the film, I feel that the film made it manageable and effectively used the characters. This again mainly worked due to the care and time put into making the previous MCU films over the past decade where the audience has already become familiar with the characters. It is clear that this is essential when you look at the train wrecks which are Suicide Squad and Justice League.
Overall I rate Infinity War 9/10.
