Novak Djokovic of Serbia has become Wimbledon champion after facing Kevin Anderson of south Africa and triumphing in 3 straight sets to love (6-2, 6-2, 7-6).

This is now Djokovic’s fourth Wimbledon title and 13th Grand Slam title overall. Djokovic’s first Gentlemen’s Singles win at Wimbledon was in 2011 with his second and third in 2014 and 15.

Djokovic was the 12th Wimbledon seed in 2018 and was predicted to win 7/2 according to The Sun bets.

The semi-final match for both final opponents were challenging games. Djokovic knocked out Nadal in 5 sets with the match lasting over the course two days. (6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 3-6, 10-8). Likewise, Anderson’s challenging semi-final match against John Isner also took place over 5 sets. (7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 6-4, 26-24). Following shocking defeat of Roger Federer in the 5 set quarter final match against Anderson, the championship was open. Federer was the number 1 seed and favourite to win the championship in 2018. Other shocks earlier in the tournament included the second round defeat of Marin Cilic who was ranked as the 3rd Wimbledon Seed and 2017 finalist.

This year was particularly special for Djokovic as this was the first time his 3 year old son Stefan was attending Wimbledon. His second child, a daughter named Tara was born last September.

During the post-match interview, Djokovic said: ‘Thank you all of you for supporting not just us, but tennis throughout these couple weeks and for being so passionate about our sport. It is a pleasure to be playing in front of you.’
